RENO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities have closed Interstate 80 at the Nevada-California line while firefighters battle spot fires, debris and smoke from a nearby wildfire just west of Reno.
Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Dan Gordon said Tuesday morning that the westbound highway was closed around 7 a.m. on the Nevada side near Verdi.
Gordon says California’s Highway Patrol has closed the interstate’s eastbound lanes on the California side of the highway as well.
Gordon says parts I-80 were closed Monday night because of the fire but had reopened in the evening before authorities decided to close it again early Tuesday.
He did not know when the road might be reopened.
